Thursday in Sky River Kingdom was bursting at the seams with fun! Today was our all camp medieval faire. Campers mixed and mingled while they traveled far and wide across the kingdom visiting our different faire stations. There were games, crafts, snacks, face painting, and singing. Campers had a chance to visit Pineapple, Frog and Monkey at the cooks station and help cut up veggies to put in soup for our all camp lunch. We also had two special guests visit the Kingdom, Katie Kent brought fiber and wool and taught about spinning them into yarn and Laura Wickham gave a catapult demonstration and brought real chainmail armor show the girls. The faire ended with an all camp lunch under the apple trees. I can't believe that tomorrow is Friday and at the end of the day we will close our gates for another year. This week has absolutely flown by. We celebrate a successful camp by letting our 6th graders and up spend the night at Fox farm. If your daughter is a 6th grader, LIA, PAIT or PA and is joining us for the sleepover, please download the form below and bring it to camp tomorrow at drop off. Dot.
It was a very exciting day today in our little Kingdom! We were joined by a special guest Clifford from the North American Falconers Association and his beautiful hawk Hera. Our girls learned a little about the history of falconry, and about Hera herself, like how she hunts, what she eats, and all about her feathers. It was fascinating!
We had more art, science and cooking sessions today and also got to try our hand at fire building and water balloon archery. Daisy our dragon was spotted breathing a few puffs of fire so hopefully by tomorrow she'll be feeling much better! Tomorrow we will eat, drink, and be merry at our all camp Medieval faire! Dot. Our campers and staff had a fabulous day today exploring our kingdom. Parking before and after camp was a breeze! Thank you all for your patience while we shuffle you though pick up and drop off each day.
Cooking, science, and crafts were just some of the things that we did today. Lady Pineapple told the tale of stone soup to Unit B today. The girls then made plans to cook their own stone soup. Each girl in unit B will be bringing an ingredient to add to their soup on Thursday. Sadly today our fire breathing dragon Daisy lost her fire. Our campers have bravely agreed to go on quests throughout the kingdom to help her find her fire and restore order to our great kingdom. Some quick notes for tomorrow and the rest of the week. Campers must come to camp wearing their camp shirt every day. A full water bottle or two, sunscreen and a big lunch(campers tend to eat more while at camp) are a must. We have such an exciting day planned for tomorrow! More questing, adventures and a few very special guests await. Dot. We had such a great first day of camp today! All of our units explored the Kingdom of Sky River and met our friendly fire breathing dragon named Daisy. Some of us cooked, others crafted and some had science with Lady Tweezers. We learned how to write with real feather quill pens and ink and discovered it may not be as easy as a ball point pen but it sure it a lot more fun.
Tomorrow our kingdom gates open for more merriment and fun at 9:15 am. I know this sounds strange but, please don't arrive early. Old Snohomish/Monroe road is not safe to park on and we can NOT block our neighbors driveways. Luckily Lord Hill park is right down the street. If you find yourself arriving early please go there and wait. Gates will open at the end of our day tomorrow at 3:40pm and the same rules apply at the end of the day as the beginning. More adventure awaits tomorrow in the Kingdom of Sky River, brave and noble Lords and Ladies! Make sure you come prepared with your full goblets(water bottles), wearing the colors of your kingdom(camp shirt), and bring a big lunch so that you can feast when you're hungry. I bid you goodnight my good Lords and Ladies. Dot. We are EXCITED to spend a week at Sky River Day Camp with your camper. Attached you will find your confirmation letter and A large letter to print out and place in your window for drop off and pick up.
Please plan to arrive by 9:15 in the morning (do not arrive before 9:15). IF YOU ARRIVE BEFORE 9:15 PLEASE DO NOT PARK ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. You are welcome to park at Lords Hill Park until it is time. For pick up arrive do not arrive before 3:40 but before 4:00 in the afternoon. The first day usually takes the longest, however it does get better! Please be patient with us as we do our best to get everyone in and out safely and efficiently. You must stay in your vehicles. It is a common misconception that arriving a few minutes late helps the traffic. Unfortunately late arrivals actually cause us to stop traffic in order to clear out the one way portions of the driveway. This causes delays for everyone. Please be sure to arrive at the designated times. We can't stress enough the importance of carpooling to and from camp. Less vehicles means we can get kids in and out of cars more efficiently. It is very important that you have anyone who might pick up your camper listed on her pick up list. We only release campers to people who are listed on her form. We also check ID of anyone we do not know. If you want to add drivers to your daughter's list please send us an email of the people to add at [email protected] Please bring a "letter" for each Unit you will have in your car. Once we have transferred your camper to or from your car remove the corresponding letter so we will know you are ready to go. Example in the photo above. Medication at Camp Girl Scouts of Western Washington is not mandated by law to require that its volunteers administer medications to girl members. Taking over-the-counter or prescribed medication is the responsibility of the girl needing the medication and her parents. Girl Scouts of Western Washington strives to be inclusive and to make its programming available to the broadest range of girls possible, and so will allow volunteers to accept the responsibility of administering medications. Please read the information provided at the links below regarding our policy and permissions needed. At Sky River Day Camp we encourage parents to give medication before or after camp if at all possible. If your camper needs medication during camp you must have the forms below completed and turned in to Ooke (our camp nurse) before medication can be given. All medication must be in its original container, must have current dates, and must have your camper's name on. We do not provide any over the counter medications (although the Girl Scout forms may indicate otherwise). All prescription medications require a separate form that must be signed by your medical provider. Links to all of the forms are below. Medication and appropriate forms should be brought to camp and given directly to Ooke. If you have meds and forms to drop off let a volunteer know during drop off and they will send Ooke to you.
